KOTA KINABALU (Oct 5): The stable socio-political situation in Sabah will facilitate the fair and equal distribution of the state’s economy, income and wealth, Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin said.

He said resources, natural wealth and economic potential can be shared by providing equal opportunities to the people and thus help reduce class and racial imbalances.

“This is achieving a more balanced social and economic well-being as a key to ensuring inclusive growth and improving the living standards of the people,” he said in his speech at an investiture ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday.

He is confident that the people will not be left behind in benefiting from the hopes and aspirations of the Sabah government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The state government’s dedication and strong commitment to bringing development and progress to Sabah is evident through various initiatives, especially in providing basic amenities to the people, he said.

“Consistent and coordinated efforts, supported by strong relationships between the state and federal governments, will undoubtedly ensure success in achieving development goals and improving the quality of life of the people,” he said.

He called on all parties, including the private sector, community and non-governmental organizations in Sabah, to work together to achieve sustainable development.

The people of Sabah, he said, must continue to preserve and defend the nation’s sovereignty, reminding them never to compromise on matters that could threaten national security and public order.

He also urged all levels of society to always be vigilant and proactive in conveying information to authorities about questionable activities, as well as being the “eyes and ears” of the government in tackling crimes, including cybercrime and fraud.

Every citizen must take responsibility to ensure that unity remains strong, serving as a fortress to defend the country’s independence and push Sabah and Malaysia to become high-income regions, he added .

He reminded people that racial unity can pave the way to greater success for Sabah.

“All actions by irresponsible individuals to foment racism, hatred and enmity must be stopped. Unity between races must be maintained at all times,” he said.-Bernama
