Newburgh man sentenced to 25 years for armed robbery

Ziquan Garfield

GOSHEN – A 22-year-old Newburgh man has been sentenced in Orange County Court following his guilty plea to armed robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

District Attorney David Hoovler said Ziquan Garfield Jenkins was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.

On March 18, 2024, Jenkins pleaded guilty to the September 2, 2023 attack in which he and others displayed weapons and forcibly stolen money, and an iPhone and a gold chain and crucifix belonging to a man on Benkard Avenue in the City of Newburgh.

He also pleaded guilty to gun possession, admitting that on July 6, 2023, on Broadway in Newburgh, he possessed a loaded handgun that he shot at another person, who was not injured.

An arrest warrant was issued on July 10, 2024 when he failed to appear for sentencing. On July 16, he was arrested on those warrants and was again charged with possession of a weapon for possessing a loaded firearm.

If convicted of the latter charges, he could face an additional 3.5 to 15 years in prison.
