Newberry County School District announces make-up days for classes missed during Helene

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) – Newberry County School District officials have announced make-up days for students who missed class due to school closures related to Hurricane Helene.

NCSD said their district was hit by widespread power outages during Helene, leaving many of their facilities without electricity or internet. This prevented them from holding the class in person and found that an eLearning format was not reliable.

The make-up days for missed lessons are as follows:

The first makeup day on October 11 will be an eLearning day.

Additionally, the school district announced that they are reclassifying the eLearning days that were implemented on September 30, October 1 and October 2 as closed. However, the first eLearning day on September 27 remains one.

The district said students who were unable to complete the eLearning assignments on those days will not be penalized.

However, students are encouraged to complete work previously assigned by September 27. The district said students who complete work previously assigned for Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 will receive additional credit for class participation.

According to the district, all assignments from September 27 must be submitted by November 1.
