How to collect your share of a million Cash App settlement

The deadline to file a claim for a major class action lawsuit involving a popular payment app is approaching.

The class action lawsuit surrounding the Cash App payment app has been settled.

The $15 million settlement involves Cash App customers who made unauthorized or fraudulent transactions between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.

According to the lawsuit, the settlement concerns data and security breaches within the payment app service. The lawsuit alleges that the companies were negligent in protecting customer data and mishandled customer complaints.

These data breaches have compromised users’ accounts.

The lawsuit cited specific data breaches, one that occurred in 2021 involving a former company employee who downloaded reports from users without permission. Another incident in 2023 stems from an unauthorized user gaining access to some cash app accounts.

Cash App and Block, the app’s parent company, denied any wrongdoing, but as a result of the settlement agreed to take necessary steps to strengthen data security.

Customer accounts that have been accessed without their consent or have undergone fraudulent withdrawals or transfers may be eligible to submit a claim.

The deadline for submitting a claim on the claims website is November 18, 2024.
