Federal Judge Approves Class Action Lawsuit Alleging Violence and Bias Against 150 Black and Latino Inmates

A lawsuit seeks policy reforms and compensation for about 150 Black and Latino people who allege they were subjected to excessive force and racial discrimination by correctional officers at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center.

The class action lawsuit was granted on October 3 by U.S. District Judge Margaret R. Guzman. Guzman certified a subclass of all Black and Latino individuals within this group, based on claims of unconstitutional racial discrimination.
