El Paso’s Rodriguez and Salas earn the Female Athlete of the Month award

Rodriguez received the award in Class 6A and Salas received the award in Class 5A.

The winners were also named across the state in Classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A and in the private schools.

Rodriguez, a senior, is one of the top 50 distance runners in the country and top five in Texas and recently won the District 1-6A cross country title last Thursday at Horizon Golf Course. She has committed to running for Oklahoma State University. She has qualified for the regional meet and hopes to qualify for the state cross country meet for the fourth time in her career.

Salas, a senior setter and outside hitter, recorded her 2,000th career assist earlier this season. This season she has 99 kills, 481 assists, 191 digs, 16 blocks and 32 aces. Salas finished second at the District 2-5A cross country meet last week and heads to the regional meet in Lubbock next week.

America is currently ranked first in District 2-5A volleyball.
