NYC 7th Grader Beaten in Anti-Semitic Hate Attack: Suit

NYC 7th Grader Beaten in Anti-Semitic Hate Attack: Suit

A Staten Island boy was beaten in a schoolyard by children spewing anti-Semitic hate — and school officials did nothing to stop the abuse, his family said in a lawsuit.

The Jewish student was going out for recess at Egbert Intermediate School in Midland Beach on October 25, 2023, when he was chased by a gang of children, pushed to the ground, while shouting “F–k Israel!” It’s all your fault!” his mother said.

The beating of the six-foot-tall, 70-pound boy took place two weeks after the Hamas massacre of 1,200 innocent Israelis.

The abuse was so bad and “traumatizing for all of us” that the family moved to New Jersey, the young boy’s mother said.

“They kicked his face and his knees,” the mother told The Post.

The boy told a teacher, who reported it to the assistant principal and principal, but “school officials did not seek medical attention” for him or immediately notify his mother, she claimed.

Instead, a school official allegedly sent the victim, listed in court papers only as BA, home on a city bus.

BA was so traumatized that he never returned to school.

“It was absolutely mentally traumatizing for all of us and it made us change our entire lives. We ended up moving out of state,” the boy’s mother, who requested anonymity because she feared retaliation, told The Post.

The family now lives in New Jersey.

The boy, now 13, believes he was targeted because he said he wanted to join the Israeli army when asked in class about future careers.

“The fact that they attacked me just because of my religion is mind-boggling,” he said.

Samantha met with police the day after the incident to “notify the school” but did not press charges against her son’s tormentors, her lawyer Anna Livshits said.

The Staten Island Supreme Court lawsuit against the city and the Department of Education seeks unspecified damages.

“That our client was targeted and beaten for being Jewish at a New York City public school is deeply disturbing and reflects a rise in anti-Semitism following the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, 2023 and its aftermath,” Livshits said .

“Hate has no place in New York City public schools, and all students and staff deserve to be safe at school and in their communities. We will review the lawsuit as soon as we receive it,” a spokesperson for the city’s Department of Education said.
