BC elections: Polls now open for the final day of voting

The polls have opened for British Columbia’s 43rd provincial election, capping a four-week campaign period that saw a record number of advance votes cast.

More than a million British Columbians – roughly 28 percent of registered voters – have already cast their ballots in the elections.

Barring an extremely tight outcome, at the end of the day, BC residents should know whether the BC NDP has secured a new four-year mandate or whether BC Conservatives have completed their astonishing rise from political obscurity to form the first Conservative government of the province in almost a century. .

Those who have not yet voted could experience wind and rain in many parts of the province on Election Day.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued wind and rain warnings for most of Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the southern and central coasts on Friday as an atmospheric river headed toward the coast.

The BC River Forecast Center also issued flood warnings for the island and most of the coast in response to the storm. A flood warning means that “river levels are rising and will approach or even exceed the bank. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur,” the center said.

Polls across the province close at 8 p.m. and Elections BC expects the use of electronic tabulations will lead to faster reporting of results this year.

CTV News Vancouver will air a live, commercial-free election special on TV and here on CTVNewsVancouver.ca starting at 6 p.m.
