“We are ready,” says class 2024 ahead of final exams

A total of 732,000 full-time and 136,000 part-time candidates will take the exams at approximately 7,000 exam centers across the country.

The exams end on November 28 for both Independent Examination Board and National Senior Certificate students.

Jacaranda FM News spoke to the soon-to-be graduates as they embarked on their final term of high school.

Pretty Sola, an 18-year-old student from Joe Slovo Comprehensive and Technical High School in Khayelitsha, expressed confidence that her hard work will enable her to pursue a career in radiology.

“I have studied thoroughly, I have an exam schedule, I take Saturday classes, I am in a study group with my fellow students and I have mentors and teachers to help me. I see myself as a successful person because I am a go-getter. I am not a failure,” Sola said.

Despite feeling overwhelmed, Thamisanqa Mahlangu (19), a Grade 12 student at Finetown Secondary School, is confident his hard work will translate into positive results.

“I have to stay faithful and keep praying because there are people who came after me and they have performed well. That in itself is motivating.”

A stressed Viwe Mbuke (18) from Sinenjongo High School said she does not handle pressure well.

“As we get closer to the exams, my anxiety remains high. However, my dream of going to college keeps me alive. I plan to enroll at an institution that is not in Gauteng as I feel being away from home will bring a sense of independence, even though it comes with its own challenges.”

Meanwhile, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane this week launched the pledge signing campaign, urging students to follow exam rules and report any violations.
