First-graders from Southampton Road become reporters for a newspaper project

WESTFIELD – The Southampton Road first graders in Laura Fisher’s class became reporters for a newspaper project, “Extra, Extra, Read All About It,” to publicize what students like about their school.

Students learned what a reporter is and how to write a short article. They learned that a reporter can focus on important information, fun facts and stories about things happening in their community. “This writing activity is an opinion piece and is taught in conjunction with components of our first grade writing, literacy, and social studies curriculum,” said their teacher Laura Fisher.
