Hyderabad: After intense protests to postpone the Group I main exam citing multiple issues including cancellation of GO 29, aspirants at multiple centers in Hyderabad reported that the General English exam, a qualifying test, held on Monday was simply and was easy to navigate.

Several candidates who appeared for the examination at different centers of the city noted that the question paper was set at a level similar to that of class X. According to the candidates, this was done to cater to students mainly from rural areas.

Some of the questions asked included writing a letter to the editor of a leading daily newspaper highlighting the effects of air pollution, rearranging sentences in the correct order to form a coherent paragraph, and using certain expressions /sentences within sentences.

The candidates were asked to write synonyms and antonyms for words, in addition to the correct spelling of the given words, and fill in the blanks. Students were also tested on their knowledge of passive voice and indirect speech. Passages with questions and punctuation of a passage were also asked. There were a total of 15 questions for a total of 100 points. “The question paper is a simple and similar Class X English exam. The paper is prepared in such a way that even students from rural backgrounds can write easily. There are no issues regarding the conduct of the examination at my center,” said Group I aspirant Sharath, who appeared for the examination at a center in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

Even coaching experts found that question form simple and not long-winded. “The paper setters stuck to the basic English level of Class X standard and it will not be burdensome on Telugu medium students. They stuck to the stated pattern,” said Deepika Reddy, a coaching expert from Group Services and director of Shikara Academy. The TGPSC has issued Group-I notification for a total of 563 posts for which the main exams are scheduled from October 21 to 27.
