Royal Caribbean’s hidden bathroom camera may have filmed nearly a thousand passengers, the lawsuit says

(Gray News) – A Royal Caribbean passenger is suing the company and his former crewmate after nearly 1,000 people may have been victims of a hidden camera in an onboard bathroom.

The class action lawsuit was filed against Royal Caribbean Cruise in the Southern District of Florida on behalf of the passenger, “Jane Doe,” and all other passengers present.

According to the documents, Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a former flight attendant, took photos of passengers “while they were undressed and engaged in private activities” during a February cruise on the line’s Symphony of the Seas ship.

Mirasol was sentenced to 30 years in prison in August after pleading guilty to producing child pornography.

Mirasol also transmitted and/or uploaded images of the passenger to the world wide web, including but not limited to the dark web, without the guest’s prior knowledge or consent, the lawsuit said.

The passenger said she suffered severe emotional problems as a result, including insomnia, physical pain and dizziness.

According to the lawsuit, after his arrest, Mirasol “revealed that he has been installing cameras in bathrooms since he began working on Symphony of the Seas in December 2023.”

The class action lawsuit also alleged that Royal Caribbean failed to notify all passengers staying in cabins provided by Mirasol, and its victims could have included as many as 960 passengers.

The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of damages and a jury trial.
