talkSPORT betting tips – Best bets and expert advice for Doncaster racing on Friday

ITV will broadcast three Flat races live from Doncaster on Friday and the official departure is likely to be a mix of soft and good to soft after time.

The action starts with a number of well-bred young fillies going head-to-head in a Class 2 maiden at the Straight Mile. A Class 3 handicap on the Straight Mile and the Class 2 6f Sprint Handicap feature complete the action.

Our expert, Floyd Mason, has studied the form and made a selection for each match.

Friday tips

2.08 Doncaster – Queen of thieves

Eight young fillies will post for the Class 2 Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Of the four fillies already run, the David Menuisier-trained Janey Makers, a daughter of New Bay, sets the form standard with a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 75, recorded for her respectable debut third of eight over a mile at good to soft ground at Yarmouth earlier this month. Oisin Murphy remains in the saddle and she will likely take a step forward from that initial effort and get right back into the mix.

However, based on the cultivation of some of her opponents in large yards, she may prove vulnerable.

Wonder Star is a daughter of Sea The Stars who represents William Haggas with Tom Marquand at the top. She is a half-sister to the useful 7f-1m winner who, as a juvenile Wanees, comes from the family of St Leger winner Masked Marvel.

The selection Queen of thieves is a daughter of Frankel, who represents John and Thady Gosden. She is a full sister of the top winner in the 1m-1m4f, including as a juvenile Cracksman.

The Gosdens are 7-35 (20%) and 6-27 (22%) with their young runners in Doncaster over the last two weeks.

2.43 Doncaster – Rajapour ew

Admittedly, the following suggestion Rajapour is highly speculative based on recent evidence, but negative quotes of around 40-1 should be accepted anyway when the full picture is viewed.

The four-year-old Almanzor gelding represents David O’Meara in the Class 3 1m Handicap and is one of three entries for the yard.

The selection made its debut for O’Meara after a four-month break when he finished sixth of nine in a Class 3 1m1f handicap on soft ground at Hamilton last month.

He was previously trained by Jean-Claude Rouget in France and won three times from 7.5f-1m on good soft ground as a juvenile at Deauville and Chantilly, including in listed company.

In the spring of 2023, he achieved a peak RPR of 105 when finishing third in a tough Longchamp Group 3 event behind the subsequent French 2,000 Guineas fourth American flag.

Having scored an 89 on Friday, Rajapour has the conditions in his favor and is clearly capable of beating his odds if he takes another step back in the right direction after another four weeks to acclimatize to his new, relatively local area in Upper Helmsley.

3.18 Doncaster – Magical spirit ew

Finally, double-digit citations may understate decent each-way claims Magical spirit when he represents Kevin Ryan in the nine-runner Class 2 6f Sprint Handicap.

The eight-year-old is a combined 5-20 on good to soft or soft ground and 3-7 on this course, including when he won this race in 2021 from a 3lb higher level.

He recorded an RPR of 99 when he won this course and distance in April and this late prize has likely been targeted ever since. He should be back in the mix from 89 on Friday.
