Glenn Irwin: NW200 Superbike record holder retires from road racing

Glenn Irwin, who won 11 races in the North West 200, has announced his retirement from road racing.

Irwin, 34, says the decision is to focus on winning the British Superbike Championship.

The Northern Irish rider finished second and third in the BSB rankings over the past two seasons.

Riding for PBM Ducati, he missed Tommy Bridewell by just 0.5 points in 2023 and finished third this season behind champion Kyle Ryde and Bridewell.

“I believe this news will help shape my career in pursuit of my first British Superbike title,” Irwin said on his social media.

“Thirty-four may seem young, but I have accomplished so much more than I ever dreamed of.”

Irwin made his debut at the North West 200 in 2015 and has become the most successful rider in the Superbike class in the event’s history.

He achieved a hat-trick of wins at the 2024 event, while making 11 straight victories in the Superbike class.

He made his only appearance at the Isle of Man TT in 2022, where he was the fastest newcomer to the event, and early in his career he competed in the Ulster Grand Prix.
