No increase in toll rates yet at CCLEx

CEBU CITY — The planned increase in toll rates for the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEx) – the country’s longest and highest bridge – has been postponed.

The reprieve was granted at the request of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, pending the incorporation of the Cebu provincial government into the Local Toll Regulatory Council (LTRC).

During a meeting at the Capitol, Garcia requested CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Alfon to postpone the planned increase until the Cebu provincial government gains representation in the LTRC.

The council currently consists of representatives from the Cebu City government, the City of Cordova and the private sector.

Garcia emphasized that the provincial government should participate in decision-making since many CCLEx users are from Cebu province.

Alfon agreed to the request and confirmed that CCLEC is open to collaboration with government partners. He acknowledged that this was a fair approach and noted that the company has consistently worked closely with the government.

To comply with the governor’s request, work is already underway to amend the concession agreements with CCLEx to ensure that the province of Cebu is represented in the LTRC.

This is intended to balance the current representation, which only includes Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City outside the province’s jurisdiction.

CCLEC had earlier requested a toll increase ranging from P8 to P51 for different vehicle categories.

Under the proposal, the toll for Class 1 vehicles would increase from P90 to P107, while the toll for Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles would increase from P180 to P214 and from P270 to P321, respectively. For motorcycles, or Class 1M vehicles, the toll should be increased from P60 to P68.

Inaugurated in April 2022, CCLEx serves as the third bridge connecting Cebu City to Mactan Island, specifically linked to the Municipality of Cordova. At 8.9 kilometers in length, it is the longest and highest bridge in the Philippines, built to ease traffic congestion between Cebu City and Mactan and provide motorists with a faster travel alternative.

The project was developed by Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, through a public-private partnership with the local governments of Cebu City and Cordova.
