Harry Potter fans know what they want from Hogwarts Legacy 2, and the developers need to listen.

Well, it’s official: Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, and we can’t wait to return to Britain’s premier school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Before you run to Diagon Alley to grab your school supplies, know that we don’t know much about the game. Presumably it’s a high priority for Warner Bros. Games and will it tie in with the upcoming Harry Potter TV show.

We’re not sure what that means exactly. Will it be set in modern times? Will Harry, Hermione and Ron show up? Can we play as The Marauders? We honestly have no idea, but we do know one thing: Harry Potter fans are very excited about the news.

So much so that some of these eager wizards and witches in training have taken to Reddit to share what features they want to see when they go back to Hogwarts, and if the developers are reading this, I think they should start taking notes.

School is out for wizards

So, what would they see in Erised’s gaming mirror? Well, there are two things. The first is for Warner Bros. Games relatively easy to implement. In short, players want the game to be a real Hogwarts simulator. They want there to be more classes, a school schedule to follow, and consequences for breaking school rules.

I have to admit I think this is a good idea. One of the most disappointing things about Hogwarts Legacy was how quickly the castle (which is kind of the reason I play the game) loses any relevance to the plot. So instead of sneaking through hallways and going to classes, I explore caves and magical vaults. I know we all like a bit of variety (that’s why Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans are selling so well), but when I dropped $75 on a game set at Hogwarts, I wanted to be at Hogwarts too.

Sure, I know it can be a bit boring having to stick to a schedule, but it worked in Bully, and it could be fun if we get the option to skip class and have to avoid prefects while completing missions. There can even be penalties for skipping too many classes (I’m still not sure why House Points weren’t a bigger problem in the first game) and rewards for attending class; it could really add some new dimensions to the gameplay, which, let’s be honest, was getting a bit monotonous!

More choice

The second thing people want more of is choice. Yes, I know this is a broader idea than the back of Dudley Dursley, but there was a lot of talk about the open world when Hogwarts Legacy came out, and it was fun to play in a wizard’s sandbox.

Unfortunately, aside from choosing our house and learning the unforgivable curses (for which there were no consequences other than some insignificant dialogue), the game was quite simple and linear. I would then hope that the next game in the series would give us a bit more variety, perhaps allowing us to choose whether we are half-blood or pure-blood, or whether we could embrace dark magic. Maybe we can even side with the villain. It would undoubtedly give the game some replay value that the current version lacks.

There are lots of other little things people want to add. Some weirdos want Quidditch (I still insist it’s a stupid game, but who am I to deny people their fun), and others would like the opportunity to go on dates with students (yeah, I’m not sure about that of), but what Warner Wat Bros. can’t do is just hit a two on the box and call it a day. This new Hogwarts Legacy must iterate and evolve – otherwise you risk robbing the Wizarding World of its magic.
