Homewood football team receives positive news about an injured player

The Homewood football team received some good news early this morning regarding injured defenseman John Griffin.

Griffin’s scans and X-rays came back negative and he was released from the hospital, according to a message from Patriots coach Ben Berguson.

Griffin was injured in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 31-24 win over Athens in the Class 6A playoffs. He was immobilized and taken off the field.

Homewood responded with a game-winning drive of 98 yards.

“Griffin really shook up our whole team,” Homewood quarterback Kaleb Carson said. “We all love him, so we really wanted to win this match for him. … I was determined to get a score on that (last) ride.”

Homewood travels to Fort Payne for Round 2 next week.
