Cash App settlement: Deadline to claim up to $2,500 is Monday

Those who have used Cash App to transfer money in the past six years may be eligible for up to $2,500 as part of a class action settlement over security breaches of the mobile payment app.

The app allows users to send and receive money, invest in stocks, buy bitcoin, and make payments to certain vendors.

In a class action lawsuit submitted in FebruaryCash App users alleged that Cash App Investing and its owner, Block, were negligent in their responses to two data breaches: when a former Cash App Investing employee accessed account information without authorization in 2022, and when an unauthorized user accessed certain Cash App accounts in 2023 using recycled phone numbers associated with the accounts.

It also accuses Block and Cash App Investing of failing to implement proper security controls and failing to respond to concerns about fraudulent transactions taking place through the app.

The proposed settlement is $15 million, although Cash App and Block both deny any liability or wrongdoing, according to the settlement website.

Who can file a claim for the Cash App Settlement?

If your account has been accessed without authorization or you have had fraudulent withdrawals or transfers, you can file a claim. You must have an active account, or your account must have been active between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.

How to make a Cash App claim

Customers can file a claim on the Cash App settlement website. If you have a notification ID and confirmation code from a notification you received by mail or email, you will be asked to enter that information. You can still make a claim even if you haven’t received any notice.

The deadline is November 18, 2024 at 10:59:59 PM PT to file a claim under the settlement.
