Horse Racing Tips: Carlisle, 12.30pm

The track on the Chase Course is officially described as good, good to soft in places, but light snow is forecast in the region tonight and this morning, so the ground may have softened to good to soft by then.

DREAM BOY is considered one of the best bets of the day in this Class 4 extended 3m Novices’ Handicap Chase, which Stuart Coltherd represents. His son Sam is in the saddle and wants to continue a winning association.

The trainer has a run-to-form figure of 80 percent with his attacks over the last 14 days and is 19-116 (16 percent, +€6.41) with his runners over fences here.

Dream Boy won an Irish point in April last year and was the winner of the first 2 meter hurdle in Kelso at the end of 2023. The chestnut gelding ended that campaign with a second-place finish of 15 on an extended 2m 6f handicap hurdle at the Scottish venue, with a Racing Post rating (RPR) of 109.

The squad made a successful return to action last month, on his hunting debut, over an extended 2m 5f at Wetherby on good to soft, playfully digging in after the last to triumph in an overall finish.

That effort was rewarded with an RPR of 114 and the six-year-old’s rating went up by 3lb to a new mark of 111. The step up in travel now is likely to suit, and he is considered capable of following this up. Wetherby’s second and sixth horses continued their form by subsequently winning.

FLIC OU VOYOU has strong follow-on claims in this Class 3 Veterans’ Handicap Chase over 2m 4f, representing Henry Hogarth while Danny McMenamin remains in the saddle.

The jockey is 7-37 (19 percent, +€28.33) when riding for the trainer.

The 10-year-old Kapgarde gelding returned to victory on this trip in Newcastle 19 days ago, recording an RPR of 121, and his rating rose by 2lb to a new mark of 119.

The selection saw Hogarth’s first success since leaving Paul Nicholls in January, but overall he is 3-12 on good to soft, 4-14 over this distance, 4-17 on right-handed courses, 3-12 in this grade of the match and 3-5 at this time of year.

His best chasing RPR was 142 in February last year, and he will have to take a break if he uses that again in this company.

In the penultimate match in Cumbria, GO ON A SEARCH is deemed capable of this Class 5 handicap pursuit over 2 meters and represents Lucinda Russell. Derek Fox continues in the saddle.

The trainer has gone 8-30 (27 percent) with her runners in the past 14 days and is here 39-377 (10 percent) with her loads over fences.

The selection is a brother of 2m/2m 1f hurdle/pursuit winner Broomfield Bijou from a stylish French pursuit family, and his form enjoyed an immediate revival when he made a winning debut over the regular fences at Kelso on a slightly longer trip at good to soft ground last month.

His grade went up by 5 pounds to a new rating of 105, but he was given an RPR of 109 for that effort, and there should be plenty more to come from him over the bigger obstacles.

Selection: Walk On Quest @ SP with BetMGM
