Belleville 4-star safety, teammate of Bryce Underwood, is committed to Michigan football

Michigan’s football program has produced one of the top prospects in the state in the 2025 recruiting class.

Belleville four-star safety Elijah Dotson reversed his commitment from Pittsburgh to the Wolverines on Wednesday, he posted on Instagram.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, who is ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the state and No. 200 nationally by the 247Sports Composite, had been verbally committed to the Panthers since May, but Michigan recently showed up. pursuing the talented safety.

Dotson made an official visit to Ann Arbor for the Oregon game earlier this month. He is teammates with five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 player in the country and committed to Louisiana State since January.

The Wolverines recently lost a verbal commitment from the only quarterback in their class of 2025, four-star Carter Smith, amid reports of an all-in effort to land Underwood.

Dotson’s decision puts Michigan back at 19 commits this cycle after four-star safety Ivan Taylor, a top 100 recruit, left for Alabama on Monday. He will be the second safety and fourth defensive back in the class, joining safety Kainoa Winston and cornerbacks Shamari Earls and Jayden Sanders. All four are ranked in the top 250 in the country.

“Played a little bit of everything from safety, corner, receiver, return man and some wild quarterback in high school,” 247Sports recruiting analyst Allen Trieu wrote in his scouting report of Dotson. “Has above-average size and plays physically. Will put his face in the action in run support and will get his hands on receivers when playing man-to-man. Violent striker who had even more impact as a tackler in his final year. The receiver’s background helps with his ball skills. Versatile and can play deep in the secondary or get into the box, as well as match up one-on-one with slots and tight ends. Most likely, projection is a safety, but it’s not out of the question that a school could try him as a wide corner.

Michigan’s class ranks 14th nationally.
