TURNBULL STAKES – JOCKEY COMMENTS

Damian Lane (Via Sistina): On the run: “She was clearly the class horse in the field and I rode her accordingly; even though I still think she didn’t like the ground. It wasn’t as much of a test as last time, so I think she can improve again on a more solid basis.”

On keeping the ride: ‘Yes, I’m not sure. If she goes straight to a Cox Plate I might not be able to do that, but we’ll see. I’m sure J-Mac (James McDonald) and K-Mac (Kerrin McEvoy) already have their hands up, so yeah, we’ll see where she goes and work it out from there.

On the horse: ‘She just has a really long stride in her, she’s just getting taller, I would say. She just picks up and holds a really good gallop, more than letting go. Buckaroo led her and she just came through the line very solidly, so yes, a stylish mare.

Joao Moreira (Buckaroo): “He drove a fantastic race. It took a very good horse to beat him.”

Ethan Brown (Eliyass): “Solid run. He has proven that he can reach this level. Probably chased a bit far from home. He’s probably out of touch with the gap between runs, but he’ll be all the better for the Melbourne run, and he’s a very smart horse for the future.”

Declan Bates (Duke De Sessa): “Good, tough weather ridden by him. It is clear that we would like to go one step further. He got a little excited in the early stages but then came into his own, and as I said, he was good and strong until late. A few fresher horses late on the scene.

Jye McNeil (Young Werther): “He had a good run just off the pace and performed at a good level to compete with a lightweight in a race like the Caulfield Cup.”

Mark Zahra (Atishu): “She ran well. She ran as best she could. It was a good try.

Craig Newitt (Francesco Guardi): “He ran very well. He’s making good progress towards the cup, so I’m sure once he gets out he’ll be right.”

Ben Melham (Place du Carrousel): “I had a nice trip and breathed very well today. She produced at the right time. I expected her to hit the line a little better. She just worked on the straight. Was okay after the line.”

John Allen (Circle of Fire): “I thought he was good, still a little bit fresh, a little bit enthusiastic, but I thought it was a good run for where he’s going.”

Beau Mertens (Brave King): ‘I thought he was doing well. Obviously an outsider on the field. I had a nice run then and I thought he kept up his canter through the line well.”

Michael Dee (warmonger): “I definitely would have liked to see him get to the line a little better than what he did today. So just watch him pull himself up. Maybe already looking for 2400 (meters).

Koby Jennings (Huetor): “A bit tricky trying to hold him. I think being so far back didn’t help his chances.

Luke Currie (Sharp ‘N’ Smart): “He had a torrid run. He was four and five wide early and then pushed to be three wide. So he couldn’t do anything there.

Billy Egan (Bankers Choice): ‘He just couldn’t handle these horses.

Jamie Mott (Bois D’argent): “He was disappointing. He had a good run after a difficult draw, but certainly below par.”

Jordan Childs (Knights Choice): “Okay, I think he’s just looking further now.
