Series 1: Dealing with a Jewish Divorce

I am really proud to have worked with my father Rabbi Yacov Barber in creating this MASTERCLASS series. It has definitely been a passion project for both of us.

For years I watched from the sidelines as my father worked tirelessly to promote, protect and defend the plight of the Agunah.

For years we have been frustrated and discussing possible ways in which we could bring about far-reaching change in a widespread problem within our global Jewish community.

The goal is always to find a proactive rather than retroactive approach to the problem.

How can we educate, inform and empower women before they start the Get process? The idea is that this will reduce the chance that a woman will end up in the unbearable position of an Agunah.

We sincerely hope that these lessons are a step in that direction.

Encouraging women to know their rights, develop strategies for best outcomes and inform the wider community about the important role we all play.

These lessons grew out of those years of advocacy, the desire to fill the information gap, and the growing interest of the community.

With his years of experience in the various roles involved in the divorce process, my father, Rabbi Barber, was a perfect fit.

During his years as a pulpit rabbi in Australia, he was Dayan at the Beit Din in Melbourne and was responsible for 600 divorces.

He currently lives in New York and is still Dayan. He is also active as a Toen (Jewish lawyer) and divorce mediator.

His understanding and pragmatic approach have already helped many people, and these lessons are the fulfillment of a dream to reach and help many more people.
