BioMed Realty Celebrates 20 Years as Real Estate Giant with Portfolio of Over Billion

Founded in 2004, BioMed Realty was one of the first real estate firms to focus on the life sciences industry, providing Class A laboratory space that is critical to the world’s leading innovators.

Since Blackstone Real Estate acquired BioMed Realty in 2016, the company has grown significantly and is now the largest privately held operator of life sciences real estate, with a portfolio valued at more than $22 billion.

The company operates 1.5 million square feet of life sciences infrastructure in key innovation centers in the US and UK, including Boston/Cambridge, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Boulder in the US and Cambridge in the UK.

BioMed Realty entered the UK life sciences property market in 2012 through the acquisition of the 120-acre Granta Park campus in Cambridge.

Tim Schoen, CEO of BioMed Realty, said, “As we enter our third decade, our core mission remains the same: to provide life sciences and technology companies with world-class innovation space so they can continue to improve human health.

“Our team’s dedication to delivering mission-critical infrastructure has helped our company build many valuable relationships with tenants and the community. We look forward to the next 20 years of paving the way for human discovery as we continue to accelerate innovation.”
