Nani RESPONDS to Hema Committee Report Findings: ‘It Breaks My Heart’ | Telugu Movie News

The details of the ‘Hema Commission Report‘ were recently made public and since then movie stars have been sharing their opinions on the findings regarding the Malayalam Film Industryincluded Nani And Tovino-ThomasIn a recent interview, Nani described the report as “alarming,” but he has not seen any such incidents on his film sets.

“Reading this breaks my heart.

But I don’t see that happening on my sets or anywhere around me. I’m sure it’s the same with many mainstream films (because) everyone is working towards something very serious,” he told PTI.
The actor added: “There could be something, but it never occurred to me that it was on location or that everyone was being a little cautious around us. So when I read something like that, I think, ‘Where is this happening?'”
Nani is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Surya’s Saturday’ and called for strict punishment for the accused. He expressed his hope for positive changes in the industry. “I see a lot of change in the next generation. When I see these young ladies or someone who is just joining the theatres, they are not like those who have been there for 20 years. I see a lot more maturity, a lot more professionalism and I hope things will get better from here on.”

Nani is not the first actor to respond to the Hema committee report. Earlier, Tovino Thomas also called for punishment for the perpetrators, emphasizing that anyone who commits such a terrible act should bear the consequences. “If someone has done something so terrible to someone, whether it is a man or a woman, then they should get the punishment they deserve. They should not be spared, that is the basic principle. Not only should they be punished, but we should also ensure that this does not happen again. That awareness, that education system has to be there, so that (the workplace is safer for women).”
In 2017, a Malayalam actress was sexually assaulted, prompting the government to set up a three-member commission. Headed by retired judge K Hema, the commission also included former civil servant KB Valsalakumari and veteran actress Sharada. The report, submitted to the government in 2019, was recently made public. It delves into various issues within the Malayalam film industry, including sexual harassmentinadequate facilities for women, wage gaps and gender discrimination.
