Aaron Ramsey: ‘A lot’ still to be expected from Wales captain, says Craig Bellamy

New Wales head coach Craig Bellamy believes captain Aaron Ramsey still has “a lot” to offer.

Ramsey, 33, has had to overcome numerous setbacks in his glittering career, with injuries limiting him to just 15 appearances for Wales and Cardiff City last season.

But after it was confirmed that the former Arsenal midfielder will remain as Wales captain, Bellamy expects his former team-mate to play an influential role.

“We are talking about one of the best players to ever play for Wales,” said Bellamy.

“We are talking about a player who has played for Arsenal and won cups, he has played for Juventus and Nice.

“I know what he does and what his training programs are. We’ve had conversations about the role I see him playing and what I expect from him.

“I hope he’s really excited about that when you talk to him, I don’t know yet. I can see a lot of football coming from him.”

Ramsey has established himself as a Welsh football great, scoring 21 goals in 84 games and playing a pivotal role in the recent golden era, helping Wales qualify for two European Championships and a World Cup.

He was one of the experienced players who recommended Bellamy for the role of Wales head coach after his predecessor Rob Page was sacked, and later expressed his enthusiasm for working with the former Burnley and Anderlecht assistant coach.
