CBI cracks down on ‘corrupt’ Delhi Police officers, 1 arrested in raids, 1 escapes – Delhi News

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area early Saturday morning targeting policemen allegedly involved in bribery cases. During the operation, a senior cop managed to escape, officials said.

The investigating agency arrested Shailesh Kumar, a former Civil Defence employee, who was caught red-handed with a bribe of Rs 4,000. According to information received by the CBI, two head constables stationed in the Shahbad Dairy area demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to settle a domestic dispute between a husband and wife.

The investigation revealed that one of the senior officers, Amit Malik, had rented a room in Delhi’s Rohini where the bribes were to be delivered. The CBI laid a trap and as soon as they raided the scene, the policemen fled from the scene.

However, Shailesh Kumar was arrested on the spot.

Following the CBI complaint, the Delhi Police registered an FIR and took further action.

In response to the incident, the Delhi Police Commissioner has issued a new rule stating that the SHO (Station House Officer) of any police station raided by the CBI will be relieved of his duties with immediate effect. Since the current case involves the Shahbad Dairy police station and a head constable of this station is involved, the SHO has been relieved of his duties.

This raid is part of a larger crackdown on corruption in the Delhi Police. In the past two months alone, the CBI has arrested over a dozen Delhi Police officers on charges of bribery. So far, half a dozen SHOs have been relieved of their duties as a result of these operations.
