National manager explains why Celtic’s ‘class’ player is so crucial to his team ahead of the international break

With the international break approaching, Celtic are inviting a number of players to represent their country over the coming weeks.

It is a time of the season that most Celtic fans do not enjoy. However, the international break does provide an insight into how other people in football view the Parkhead players when they are not playing in the Glasgow Goldfish Bowl.

These kinds of insights can be very interesting. The first one to be discussed this week is Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is leaving for Denmark in the coming weeks.

Lars Knudsen praises ‘class’ Celtic goalkeeper

67 Hail Hail has already discussed today why Schmeichel was annoyed by his call-up to Denmark. The Celtic star explained how the Denmark captaincy was handed to Spurs’ Pierre Emile Højbjerg this week.

But while the reins have now been passed on, Denmark manager Lars Knudsen has made it clear how important Celtic’s summer signing is to his international plans.

Knudsen told Politiken (printed edition page 11): “Kasper will be there on Thursday in any case. We have to wait and see whether he will be there on Sunday as well.

“Kasper is a class keeper. When you look at what he is doing at the moment and the praise he is getting in Scotland, which he is very well deserved, you can see how good he is.

“Last season he was in the team of the year in Belgium and was number 2 in the election for best player of the competition.

“He’s doing a great job for us and with the experience and passion he has for the team, he can really make a difference for us.”

Schmeichel is a leader at Celtic

Kasper Schmeichel has already become a huge hit with Celtic fans as he continues to feel at home at the club following his big summer transfer.

He has already shown how well he can drive Celtic’s defence and after his performance against Rangers it is no wonder he is seen as the perfect addition to Brendan Rodgers.

Schmeichel has made six appearances for Celtic and his biggest test will come when the Champions League kicks off later this month.

Then and only then will Celtic fans see the true value of the experienced keeper and there is no doubt that he will be a huge asset to Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of surviving the group stages.
