September 2024 | CLASS OF 2024: Lucy proves she’s a good sport after graduating

Lucy Renshall, 28, has proven herself to be a fine sportswoman after graduating from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in Physical Education and School Sport.

Originally from St Helens, Lucy moved to the West Midlands in 2013 to further her judo career at the ‘Home of British Judo’ at the University’s Walsall Campus, which was one of the main reasons she chose to pursue a degree.

In addition to her studies, Lucy was also a WLV Sport Scholar. She represented WLV Sport when she participated in judo championships and competitions all over the world.

After competing in the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, Lucy is now on the road to success. She has set up her own sports company, with the aim of eventually becoming an Olympic sports coach herself.

She said: “I’ve had a really tough four years studying and training full-time, so I’m really relieved to be graduating. When I went full-time I knew it was going to be tough, but judo was always my priority. I knew I had to work well with the tutors to combine judo with my university studies and I can’t praise them enough.

“Sometimes I was away for three or four weeks during training camps and the teachers really helped me get my diploma.

“I recently started a judo club with my partner and I hope to one day become the coach of the Olympic team. The last four years have been amazing and although I never really wanted to get a degree, I am glad I took on the challenge. I have learned so much.”
