Conservatives must reject the growing ‘progressive right’ – Orange County Register

Postmodernism is a strange place to be. There is no real truth anymore, only story. Everyone can have their own truth, and who are we to judge? Exceptions are now the rule; the sky can’t be blue, because a colorblind person doesn’t see it that way, so none of us are allowed to declare it blue. It’s oppressive and maddening.

In postmodernism, a new matrix of power has crept in, called intersectionalism. It is derived from Marxism, which views the entire world in terms of power dynamics. Intersectionalism maps those power dynamics along race, ethnicity, sex, gender (embracing transpathology), sexuality, ability, religion, education, and more. The class with the most power is the disadvantaged class. The class with the most moral authority is the advantaged class.

For progressives on the left, a white, male, heterosexual, cisgender (i.e., not trans) Christian without disabilities is the epitome of oppression. A black, female, transgender, lesbian Muslim missing a leg is the epitome of moral authority. The postmodern Marxist seeks to undermine the oppressing class by silencing and dismantling their “dominant discourse,” which is the truth claims of the alleged oppressor. As theologian Tim Keller once wrote, “Language doesn’t just describe reality—it constructs or creates it. Power structures cloak themselves in the language of rationality and truth.” Because Marxists believe that words actually create our reality, speech must be controlled.

People on the right fool themselves into thinking that progressives only exist on the left. There is a growing progressive movement on the right that only undermines the left’s model of power. As a result, these often race-obsessed people on the right assume that the most oppressed class on the left is in fact the oppressor, and the white, Christian, male is the most oppressed. Given how progressive much of the media is on the left, they point to attacks on fathers in corporate media, disparities in the reporting of black and white crimes in the news, etc.

The progressives on the left and right both reject absolute truth claims. Both focus instead on “narratives.” In fact, as we move further into postmodernity, people spend more time talking about narratives than they do about truth, because in postmodernity there is no truth, only the stories we tell ourselves.

On the progressive left, these stories are often about Jews and their power or white conservatives. The Nazis, who were socialist cousins of the communists, became members of the right after World War II. The communists were largely given a free pass or at least sympathy as the ideological vanguard of Marxist postmodernity.

Ironically, on the liberal right, their narratives are too often about the Jews and their power. Both the liberal right and left are deeply anti-Semitic. But the liberal right is also obsessed with the Nazis. Instead of villains, they are in fact the misanthropic antiheroes of WWII. Thus, Russian propagandist Tucker Carlson can host an amateur historian who proclaims Carlson to be the “most honest” historian who can in turn rewrite the story of WWII to make Winston Churchill the villain and Hitler the victim.
