Czech inflation stable at 2.2%

PRAG (dpa-AFX) – Consumer price inflation in the Czech Republic remained stable in August after rising in the previous month, according to figures from the Czech Statistical Office published on Tuesday.

Consumer prices rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in August, the same as in July. Meanwhile, economists had expected inflation to moderate to 2.0 percent.

The annual price increase in transport fell to 1.0 percent from 3.7 percent in July, thanks to lower fuel costs, which fell by 4.0 percent compared to last year.

Costs for utilities and housing grew at a steady 3.0 percent. Meanwhile, the decline in food and nonalcoholic beverages eased from 3.1 percent to 1.8 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent in August, while prices were expected to remain the same.
