Surprise UK blockade means you won’t be able to watch Sky TV for free this weekend

With the cost of living continuing to hit wallets, it’s no surprise that many British households are looking for cheaper ways to watch premium TV. Recent years have seen an explosion in illegal streaming, with millions now reportedly able to access sports and films without paying the usual high fees.

This trend has not gone unnoticed by authorities and content providers. In the UK, stricter measures are still being taken to remove streams and jail those who provide illegal content.

Now there is another blockade going on which could mean people wanting to watch the London derby between Spurs and Arsenal this weekend will no longer be able to watch without paying.

It has been confirmed that BeStreamWise has launched a new initiative to prevent football fans from watching the match. If you click on the links, you will instead see footage of a stream of water.

BeStreamWise, an initiative that allows users to move their bodies, says it will target fans looking for livestreams on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.

The goal is not only to prevent people from watching programs illegally, but also to inform them about the dangers of downloading malware.

Kieron Sharp, CEO of FACT, said of this new approach: “Illegal streaming not only undermines the hard work of content creators and rights holders, but also exposes viewers to significant risks including identity theft, fraud and malware.

“By choosing legal streaming options, fans can show their true support for their team. With this innovative campaign, BeStreamWise aims to protect fans and educate them about the dangers of digital piracy. We want to ensure that everyone can safely and legally enjoy the excitement of the Spurs vs Arsenal match.”

And Matt Hibbert, Group Director of Anti-Piracy at Sky, added: “Illegal streaming poses a serious threat and can expose consumers to identity theft, fraud and malicious software. This campaign will protect fans by steering them away from malicious streaming sites, highlighting the dangers of clicking on unknown links and educating consumers about the risks associated with digital piracy.

“Through our partnership with BeStreamWise, we want to ensure that football fans can continue to enjoy the sport they love, without compromising their personal safety.”

What are the risks of streaming content illegally?

While it’s unlikely you’ll ever get arrested for watching free live streams, there are plenty of risks you should be aware of before you watch. Streaming online can increase your chances of receiving malicious software, which can allow criminals to gain access to your network or device and compromise your personal data.

Streaming via illegal methods also carries the risk of being exposed to fraud and data theft. This risk increases significantly when users exchange credit or debit card details to watch content on unregulated and illegal websites.

Finally, viewing content from an illegal source may expose younger viewers to content that is not appropriate for their age.
