Toronto (dpa) – Director Mike Flanagan’s drama “The Life of Chuck” is the film at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Cameron Bailey, the festival’s chef, began a presentation in Toronto.

The adaptation of a short history by the author Stephen King with Tom Hiddleston in the leading roles was published in the Canadian Metropole. Hiddleston played the book role of Charles „Chuck“ Krantz, who has made a chronological overview of history. In other roles are Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The second place went to director Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez” starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, followed by Sean Baker’s “Anora” in third place. As best documentary film, the series “The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal” won the Midnight Madness Prize and Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” starring Demi Moore.

At festivals in Cannes, Berlin or Venice, the winning film was not selected by a jury in Toronto. States stimulate the selection of my favourite films. That year, over 250 films competed at the TIFF for the favour of the public.
