Competency-based question weighting for grade 10

For the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25, the format of the examination paper for the end-of-year and class 9 and 1 examinations will remain the same. Competency-based questions, including multiple choice questions (MCQs), case-based and source-based questions, will constitute 50% of the total marks. Of these, 20% will be MCQs and other selected-answer questions. The remaining 30% will consist of short-answer and long-answer questions, following the existing pattern. This format ensures a balanced focus on both knowledge and practical skills.

How do you solve competency-based questions?

To solve competency-based questions, start by understanding the main idea of the question. These questions test how well you can apply your knowledge to real-life situations, so don’t just memorize facts. Read the question carefully and think about how the concepts you’ve learned relate to the scenario. Break down the problem step by step, focusing on the most important details. For multiple-choice questions, eliminate the wrong answers first. For case-based or long-answer questions, write clear and logical explanations. Practicing these types of questions regularly will help you improve your problem-solving skills.
