Australia 69-56 England: World champions secure series win with clinical display

Australia secured victory in their three-Test series against England by winning the deciding match 69-56 in Bendigo, Victoria.

Jess Thirlby’s England team went into the match full of confidence after their impressive 61-59 victory in Sydney on Sunday.

But world champions Australia put in a clinical display, outscoring the Roses in every quarter to seal a convincing victory.

“It’s disappointing we couldn’t put in such a strong performance in Sydney,” England captain Fran Williams told Fox Sports.

“I know a few of us will feel like we let ourselves down today. Maybe we let them get the better of us and outplay us.

“But I’m just super proud of the effort. Winning last week was huge in our history. To do that in front of an Australian crowd, which is a tough place to come and play.

“I feel like some of our young talent has stepped up and that’s really exciting.”

Australian forward Kiera Austin was named player of the match after scoring 24 goals and providing 15 assists.

England now travel to New Zealand for another three-match series, starting in Auckland on Sunday.
