Strachn was named Hillsdale County Veteran of the Year

HILLSDALE – The 2024 Hillsdale County Veteran of the Year was presented Monday morning during the “Most Popular Fair on Earth” during a brief ceremony at Nichols Bandshell following the Veterans Day Parade through downtown Hillsdale.

Sergeant First Class Steve Strachn (U.S. Army, Ret.) was honored with the award for his continued selfless service to his community upon completion of his twenty years of military service in 1995.

Strachn humbly said there were other veterans who deserved the award and he was honored to be recognized this year.

He went on to talk about all the great work being done to care for veterans in our community, raising awareness for veteran suicide and the acts of community service being done by other veterans that make Hillsdale County a great place is to raise a large number of people. family.

Dr. Pete Jennings of Hillsdale College, a former Navy and Army veteran, was the guest speaker Monday.

Jennings spoke about what it means to be a U.S. veteran and how morals and ethics are instilled through the military transition to civilian life, with many veterans remaining committed to their communities.
