Korea Box Office: ‘Executioner’ Reigns

The Korean-made crime comedy-thriller “I, The Executioner,” a sequel to the 2015 hit “Veteran,” continued its popularity at the top of the weekend box office in South Korea. It earned $3.03 million in its third full weekend session, ahead of top-ranked new release “Transformers One.”

“I, The Executioner” had a 53% market share, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service of the Korean Film Council (Kofic). The latest weekend earnings give the film a total of $47 million since its September 13 release. That makes it the fourth highest-grossing film of the year in the country, behind “Exhuma,” “The Roundup: Punishment” and “Inside Out 2.” ”, which is still well ahead at $64 million.

“Transformers One” opened with $917,000 between Friday and Sunday and achieved a 16% market share, according to Kobis. During its entire five-day opening run, it managed to raise $1.43 million.
The re-released “Begin Again” came in third. It earned $269,000 this weekend for a cumulative gross of more than $21 million, including the first series of 2014.

“Heartsping: Teenieping of Love” continued to prove itself as the highest-grossing Krean-made animated film of all time. Over the weekend, it earned $211,000, for a total of $7.83 million earned since August 3.

Ranking fifth in terms of revenue (although local charts show it at tenth, due to lower ticket sales numbers) was “Jung Kook I Am Still”, a concert film by BTS member Jung Kook.

Other titles had minimal impact on the chart. In sixth place was “Bread Barbershop The Birth of the Bread Star” with $130,000 for a cumulative $1.30 million.
