Here we go. Barcelona make six changes from the team that started in the 8-1 (!) win over Madrid CFF, while City make four changes from the team that defeated West Ham: Layzell, Park, Miedema and Shaw are all- in.

He was of course referring to tonight’s opposition, the winners of the Champions League this year and also last year, those who trump a treble with a quadruple, the fate with Putellas, Bonmatí, Walsh and more: Barcelona.

Yes, the all-conquering team will be at the Joie Stadium and will meet City in the first round of the Women’s Champions League group stage matches this season. It’s a Herculean task, but the hosts can take some inspiration from Chelsea, who managed to secure a semi-final first leg victory against Barcelona last season (feel free to ignore the second). This is not an impossible task.

City started this as WSL toppers and secured victory against West Ham this weekend, while Khadija Shaw and Vivianne Miedema were left on the bench.
