If you were to use Juul e-cigarettes, you could be fined, and it’s all because of a huge class action settlement involving the company.

This week, users of Juul Labs’ nicotine products took to online forums like Reddit and X, formerly known as Twitter, posting screenshots of online deposits claiming they had received hundreds or thousands of dollars, while others expressed frustration about the fact that they were left behind. from the settlement.

“Vaping has really paid off here,” wrote one user on

“Stop vaping, secure the Juul settlement and follow your dreams,” another X user wrote.

“Last year I randomly filled out one of those JUUL class action settlements and those people just sent me $300, who wants lunch tomorrow?” one X user asked followers.

If you want to file your claim, unfortunately the deadline for filing has already passed, which is February 5. But if you meet the deadline, it seems like you’ll get money soon enough.

The massive cash flow comes from two settlements totaling $300 million, which Juul and Altria agreed to, as Altria owns 35% of Juul.

The companies faced claims for misleading customers regarding the addictiveness and safety of the products. Moreover, they were also accused of unlawful marketing to minors.

Although Altria denied the allegations, Juul did not admit to wrongdoing as a court has not yet ruled on whether either company broke any laws.

The tobacco giant agreed to a settlement in 2022, but the Altria settlement, which was needed to begin payouts, was only approved earlier this year. Just this month, claims for the 842,000 Juul customers eligible for payment through the settlement began verification.

The settlement includes consumers who purchased Juul products before December 7, 2022.

When it comes to payouts to those who filed claims, after deducting fees, taxes and contingencies, those who qualified were entitled to a total of approximately $202,000,000.

An average claim amount was not immediately made available because the payouts were based on a number of factors, including the number of receipts a Juul user submitted as proof of purchase.
