RFK Jr. Defends ‘MAGA,’ Teases More to Join Trump’s ‘Unity Government’

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Sunday defended the “MAGA” movement and announced that more members will join the “unity government” he wants to join under former President Trump.

Kennedy offered his own definition of MAGA in a post on X, arguing that Democrats have misinterpreted the movement as regressive. The former presidential candidate dropped out and endorsed Trump on Friday, marking a major shift in the race.

“‘Make America Great Again’ evokes a nation pulsating with vitality, with a can-do attitude, with hope and a belief in itself. It was an America that could confront its dark shadows, acknowledge the injustices of its past and present, yet celebrate its successes,” Kennedy wrote.

“It was a country with broad prosperity, the most vibrant middle class in the world, and an idealistic belief (though not consistently practiced) in freedom, justice and democracy. It was a country that led the world in innovation, productivity and technology. And it was the healthiest country in the world. I’ve spoken to many Trump supporters. I’ve spoken to his inner circle. I’ve spoken to the man himself. This is the America they want to restore,” he continued.

Pollsters within Trump’s campaign say they are already seeing Kennedy’s supporters turn to the former president. Polls before Kennedy’s withdrawal showed him at 5% or 6% support in key swing states like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Kennedy said he has spoken extensively with Trump about forming a “unity government” that would focus on the issues he has focused his campaign on, such as ending the war in Ukraine, ending media censorship and improving children’s health.

Earlier Sunday, Kennedy appeared on “Fox News Sunday” for an interview with host Shannon Bream. There, he defended his decision to support Trump despite his past criticism of the former president. He argued that Americans can disagree but still get along and work toward progress in areas where they do agree.

Kennedy said the Democratic National Committee was waging “an ongoing legal war” against him and Trump. He also accused the DNC of holding a “sham primary” that prevented a serious challenge to President Biden for the Democratic nomination before he withdrew in July and Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed.
