Law enforcement officer detained for three days for bribery

GEORGESTAD: A local body enforcement officer has been remanded in custody for three days, until August 25, to assist in the investigation into allegations of soliciting bribes worth RM6,500 for helping solve a case involving gambling on cockfights.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Magistrate’s Court today to allow investigations under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The man, in his thirties, was arrested yesterday around 4 p.m.

According to a source, the officer is said to have committed the offence recently during the complainant’s bail hearing, along with 12 other friends.

“The suspect allegedly demanded RM500 from each individual, which amounts to RM6,500. However, only about RM5,000 in cash was found during the arrest,” the source said
