Judge Ibrahim files charges against Salameh, refers him to Judge Halawi

NNA – Public Financial Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim on Thursday filed charges against former Central Bank of Lebanon Governor Riad Salameh for the crimes of “embezzlement, public funds”; theft, forgery and illicit enrichment. The claim came after the prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, completed his initial investigations with Salameh and referred them to the Financial Prosecutor’s Office. Judge Ibrahim referred the former governor, along with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and preliminary investigation reports, to Beirut’s First Investigating Judge Bilal Halawi, with a request to interrogate Salameh and issue an arrest warrant against him based on the aforementioned prosecution materials. Judge Halawi will begin reviewing the case file tomorrow and will set a date to interrogate Salameh on Friday or Monday. ===================== LY
