Georgetown High School May Have Created the World’s Largest Homecoming Mum

GEORGETOWN, Texas – With homecoming season comes monster moms. They’re a Texas tradition, and one Central Texas high school may have the world’s biggest.

Students worked hard on the massive project that hung in the hallway of East View High School.

Renae Bowie is the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor who co-organized the project.

“People think, ‘Wow, this is amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it,’” Renae Bowie said.

The class decided they wanted to make history with this handmade mother and their teacher helped them turn this idea into reality.

“Every class I have, including my natural resources class, has worked on this,” Bowie said. “We worked on it the entire class period, multiple days. It was our biggest project.”

East View High School is attempting to break the Guinness World Record with a giant mummy. Lewisville High School in North Texas set the record in 2023. The Patriots, however, are nearly twice as big.

“There’s so much buy-in,” Bowie said. “The kids come out here, they take pictures, they love it. They love Patriot pride.”

The students sewed the satin ribbons together and made personalized decorations.

“Each student had the opportunity to make a trinket that came from their heart, or a program that they were a part of,” Bowie said. “They took that inspiration, and they made it out of cardboard, and we put it on a size 10 ribbon and hung it there.”

It took almost a month to complete, and they were done in time for homecoming week.

“Anything is possible with the right motivation, with the right plan, with the heart,” Bowie said. “You have to have the heart to do something. If you want to be great, you have to work hard.”

Even though it’s not your average assignment, Bowie hopes her students will get something out of it that they can’t learn from a textbook.

The homecoming football game is at 7:00 p.m. against Glenn High School.
