Anthony Edwards talks about Jayson Tatum in the ‘Starting 5’ clip that originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Jayson Tatum and Anthony Edwards were two of five NBA stars followed by Netflix cameras throughout the 2023-2024 NBA season for the “Starting 5” docuseries. They provided a lot of content in their first matchup in November.

The first episode of the series focused on Edwards leading his Minnesota Timberwolves to a 114-109 overtime victory over Tatum’s Boston Celtics. Edwards dropped a game-high 38 points and played great defense against Tatum in crunch time, including in OT when he gained possession after getting tangled with the C’s superstar.

As we celebrated the win in the Timberwolves locker room, Edwards mocked those who consider Tatum the NBA’s best.

“You saw Tatum try to get me to hit the switch, locking his ass twice. He started talking…,” Edwards said. “Tatum was talking crazy and said, ‘Yes, I’m here,’ and then I said, ‘I’m coming again.’ Speaking of the best player in the league, you’re all tripping.”

Tatum had the last laugh. In the next meeting between the Celtics and Timberwolves two months later, he scored 45 points to lead Boston to a 127–120 victory in another OT thriller. The C’s also won in their third and final game against the Wolves in Minnesota, 104-102.

After losing to Edwards and the Timberwolves in November, Tatum talked about the pressure that comes with being the best team in the league.

“We are expected to win every night and if we lose the world ends, everyone on TV is talking about us, that we are not equipped to win a championship, that I cannot officiate in a world championship. team,” he said.

The Minnesota loss was one of only 18 for Boston all season. The Celtics cruised through the NBA playoffs as number 1 and defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the finals.

Tatum vs. Edwards will make the Celtics-Timberwolves something to watch on television when they face each other in the upcoming campaign. They meet on November 24 and January 2.
