(RTTNews) – Finnish consumer price inflation fell further to the lowest level in almost four years, amid cheaper transport costs due to falling fuel prices, preliminary data from Statistics Finland showed on Monday.

The consumer price index rose 0.8 percent year on year in September, slower than the 1.2 percent increase in the previous month.

Moreover, this was the weakest inflation reading since December 2020, when prices rose just 0.20 percent.

The annual price decline in transport costs deepened from 2.0 percent in August to 2.58 percent in September. Clothing prices fell 0.2 percent, and housing and utilities prices fell the same. Meanwhile, healthcare costs rose slightly faster, by 2.9 percent.

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent in September, versus a flat change in August.

The EU’s measure of the Harmonized Index, or HICP, rose at a slower pace of 0.9 percent in September, compared with 1.1 percent a month ago.
